The Ultimate Citrus Peel Infusion: A Simple, Cost-Free Wellness Shot |
Grab your Ingredients: 6 Lemon & 6 Grapefruit (ORGANIC) Wash your produce and Pat Dry Remove Peels and Place in Large Pot |
Cover fruit peels with filtered water (add a little extra water if needed) Tip* You can use more water for a smoother, less potent flavor, or less water for a highly concentrated, fiery wellness shot Use a lid without steam vent!! This is VERY IMPORTANT - (We want the STEAM to stay inside the pot, not exit through a vent hole) Once peels are covered with water, place lid Place pot on burner and bring to a boil Lower heat and simmer on low for 3 hours DO NOT REMOVE LID FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS! After 3 hours, turn off burner and Let pot cool down for about 2 hours (it will still be hot, but easier to manage) Then remove lid and strain (Tip* do not press firmly on fruit peels to squeeze out excess fluid - will leave pulp) Pour liquid into mason jars 🫙 Store in fridge Suggested Use - Take a shot daily as an immune boost or Take a few shots throughout the day when feeling sick, depleted or rundown |

The Science of the Peel: Plant Power & Bioflavonoids
We usually toss lemon and grapefruit peels straight into the trash, but the rind is actually where the plant concentrates its highest defense mechanisms. Citrus rinds are packed with a specialized group of plant compounds called citrus bioflavonoids and powerful antioxidants like eriocitrin (found in lemons) and naringin (found in grapefruits).
When we slowly simmer these peels, we draw out these deep plant compounds.
Lemon Peel: A study published in the International Journal of Current Pharmaceutical Research demonstrated that methanolic extracts of lemon peel show significant antimicrobial activity against tough pathogens
Grapefruit Peel: Research published in MDPI's Molecules evaluated grapefruit peel extracts and found they possess broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy
Here is what the clinical research says about why these rinds are so incredibly nourishing:
Antioxidant Protection:
Citrus rinds possess powerful free-radical scavenging capabilities. Research shows that eriocitrin acts at a deep cellular level to protect your cells from oxidative stress and environmental damage.
Immune System Support:
The bioflavonoids concentrated in the rinds work synergistically with Vitamin C. Studies indicate that these citrus flavonoids provide robust immunoregulatory support, helping your body maintain a strong, resilient natural defense system.
Antimicrobial & Antiviral Properties:
In laboratory settings, citrus peel extracts have consistently demonstrated natural antibacterial and antimicrobial traits, helping to inhibit the overgrowth of harmful pathogens while remaining incredibly gentle on your internal ecosystem.
